Paint My Kitchen
We purchased this home a few months ago. This is the realtor picture of my kitchen. I want to bring some life into this beige cube. All of my appliances are stainless steel and black. Eventually, I would like to remodel the entire kitchen, but for now I just want to paint the walls. Ron likes contemporary, sleek, modern, and clutter-free designs. I'm fine with this design as long as it's not cold in feeling. I want people to feel welcome and enjoy spending time in the kitchen. That doorway you see is the dining room, which contains this table.
This is the dining room, which is an open room with the living room. The wallpaper has to go. I am not a fan of wallpaper.
And turning around you are in the living room with it's beautiful bay window. It shares the same floor space as the dining room. The front door is to the left.
And here you are looking at the foyer from within the living room. To the right is the front door, you see the stairs to upstairs and the coat closet.
And this is the breakfast nook and family room as seen from the kitchen. The breakfast nook has a sliding glass door and on the opposite wall is a pantry. The family room has two skylights, a sliding glass door and a picture window. Lots of light which I love. My furniture is a tanish leather, but I plan on buying new furniture this year.
And lastly, this is the foyer that empties into the kitchen. Yes, that is a sliding glass door in the breakfast nook. I've already changed out the ceiling fixture to one that matches the breakfast nook pendant. To the left is the dining room and to the right is the family room.
Your virtual tour of my downstairs is complete. We have an alarm system and an attack cat so please don't break in. :) So now you know all the problems with this kitchen. Four doorways and a window. It's not a huge space and I would like to keep it light and airy. The entire downstairs is open to every room. Remember Ron likes clean and contemporary. Now who is up for the design challenge? If your design passes the Ron test and I choose it, I will feature it here on the WebSorceress Cooks. *All designs submitted to the WebSorceress Cooks become property of the WebSorceress Cooks. This is a non-compensated challenge. |

Hi, Felicia, what a fun post! I'm curious about the color of the countertops and backsplash. Is that a kind of greyish-beige, taupish color?

I can't help with the design part, but it does look like a nice kitchen. I just wanted to say that last summer I painted my own kitchen kind of a rusty coral color, accepted with blue and white, and I love cooking in such a cheery space. It's the color of the red rock in the Southwest U.S. dessert if you're familiar with that color.

Hey Pat,
The countertops are in the tan family and the border/backsplash ranges from white, tan, taupe, and dark gray.

Hey Kalyn,
Thanks for the compliment. The kitchen is easy to cook in for one cook but cramped for two cooks the way the stove and sink butt together.
I was initially thinking a copper color or backsplash, but wasn't sure how it would look with the stainless steel. And I agree with you about wanting a cheery space, one in which I want to spend time in cooking and baking.

Aha. I have a bathroom with tiles that sound like they have very similar colors to your backsplash. I tried a number of different colors because I didn't want to do anything tan, boring tan, earth tone tan.
Nothing worked but tan. So I painted the walls a tan with some greenish undertones, and stenciled happy little black squares mimicking accent tiles, and added black towels & accents. It's the first time I've felt like my bathroom was pulled together. I'll post some pics on my blog later; right now there are no batteries for the camera!
Meantime, check out this color scheme and see if it gets your juices going at all!

Hi, Felicia, I did manage to write up and post pictures about the bathroom that has tiles that I think might be the same or similar colors as yours. It took me a while to get to the point ... when I sit down to write posts with pictures they always turn out longer than I thought they would! What does that say about me, I wonder? Anyway, I titled it "FWIW" because it probably isn't what you're looking for, but thanks for inspiring the post. It was fun!
